Rekindle Your Love Of Home — 3 Tips To Reducing Your Clutter!

Clutter in the home reduces our enjoyment of our space and is proven to increase stress as well as anxiety.

Whether you’re planning on selling or planning on staying, decluttering makes a world of difference.

3 Tips For Decluttering Your Home & Rekindling The Love

1

First, organize your paperwork . Create a system to handle the paper that comes in, files away paperwork that matters so you can find it when you need it, and get rid of redundant or unnecessary paper.

It’s inevitable that we will accumulate paper but having a system in place keeps it in check & If you are planning on selling, this is the perfect time to pull out your tax bill, utilities & surveys of the home.

2

Next up, get two big boxes and label maybe on one and donate on the other.

Everyday or every other day spend half an hour in a space using these boxes to help remove unnecessary items.

When your donate box is full, drop it off.

When you’re maybe box is full, spend some time to evaluate each item and really be honest with yourself asking — Is this worth keeping?

Rinse & repeat this room after room when you have time or carve out a weekend to expedite the process.

The last tip for today is to include your family.

Learning to live without clutter and finding value in memories more than objects is a life skill everyone can benefit from.

So if you’ve got kids or a spouse, encourage them to conquer their clutter.

Personally, we’ve taught our kids about recycling and the value of passing along toys they no longer enjoy but that have life left for someone else. Trust me, it was difficult the first few times, but now they come to us when they’ve moved on from a toy. If your kids enjoy saving money, take their collection to a kids consignment store. They’ll get that instant gratification for their effort and anything left over can be donated.

Above all else, remember to be gentle with yourself.

It’s easy to get attached to things and often difficult to let them go. The good news is it gets easier as you go, and a feeling of lightness comes as you reduce your physical clutter.
