ECO-STYLING HOLIDAY GIFTS

Keeping Your Holidays Green

ECO-STYLE WRAPPING

This week we are taking your Holiday Gift Giving skills up a notch!

Not only is this eco-styling helping the planet, but also your bottom line & adds a whole new level of holiday cheer🎄

It’s so simple yet looks like you put so much effort into each gift — the perfect way to show your friends & family some love this holiday season!

The video is such a great introduction to this & has some adorable holiday GIFs to enjoy so be sure to check it out!⛄

– THE PROCESS –

From start to finish, this honestly takes an extra 30 – 60 seconds longer per gift & if you’re like our family who try to shop mindfully, you’ll barely notice that extra time.

Eco-styling your gifts enhances the experience for you with indulgences for the senses, your spirit & your mind. Let loose & allow your creativity to inspire your trimmings!

– WHAT YOU’LL NEED –

Grab your bevy of choice, throw on some holiday music & get ready to beautify your world, a little at a time with these gorgeous eco-styled gifts!

  • twine
  • paper & bags
  • scissors
  • single hole punch
  • foliage
  • spices
  • fruit
  • flowers
  • Tape (used sparingly)

– STEP 1 –

Collect paper scraps, news paper, paper bags or you can always buy a roll of brown paper.

– STEP 2 –

Gather some foliage.

We personally have an abundance of greenery in our yard & in south Burlington, but if foraging for greens isn’t a viable option you can easily pick up more than enough foliage from your grocery or garden store for less than $10.

A little goes a very long way so don’t feel the need to bring any heavy duty tools — Kitchen scissors are more than sufficient for this job!

These ever-greens will keep healthy for a few weeks after cutting so feel free to forage in advance of your wrapping time.

– STEP 3 –

Dehydrating your fruit is not a slow process, but it adds that wonderful pop of colour! The natural shapes of an apple or the stained glass-esq appearance of a dried citrus… the beauty nature provides never ceases to amaze me!

Choose citrus fruit, apples, pears or experiment with other options!

  • Cut the fruit into even slices… not too thin, about ¼ inch for a quicker dry time or ⅜ inch if you’re looking for more substantial size or added cloves to the rind.
  • Lay out recyclable parchment paper on a baking sheet & lay slices out or if you have a dehydrator, lay them into the trays.
  • If you are on a time crunch — 300’f but keep a close eye on them! Flipping them every 45 minutes will help speed the process but don’t forget them because when you actually “bake” them they can burn.
  • Alternatively, if you have more time, 200’f for as long as it takes (will vary depending on the thickness of your slices)
  • The higher temperature will add more of the baking fruit aroma to your home & I will often sprinkle with cinnamon to add another layer of holiday cheer!

– STEP 4 –

Plan ahead on this one the next time you go to the grocery store — add an assortment of cinnamon sticks, anise, whole cloves, cranberries, baby’s breath & lavender to your list.

Again a little goes a long way & if you want to diversify the looks, buy a little of each so you can pick & choose your trimmings.

– STEP 5 –

Set up your wrapping station & Lay out all of your supplies…

  • twine
  • paper & bags
  • scissors
  • single hole punch
  • foliage
  • spices
  • dried fruit
  • flowers
  • Tape (used sparingly)

– STEP 6 –

(CHECK OUT THE VIDEO ABOVE FOR EXPLANATION OF THESE DIRECTIONS)

• Wrap your gift with the paper or bag of your choice.

• Measure out twine (by doing a test run of the length you’ll need with the full ball)

• Cut to size

• Lay twine on table & set gift face down on top

• Bring twine together & knot (no need to lift your gift off the table)

• Flip gift over

• Change directions of the twine (if you wrapped top & bottom first, now do left & right — vice versa is you started left & right)

• Knot in the front

• Gather a small bunch of trimmings together & style

• Place on gift & secure with twine — I use scissors or hole punch to create an opening in fruit to feed twine through.

• Add your name tag & viola!

A stunning piece of holiday cheer ready to be shared with others💕
